I have no problem recommending this mic to anyone starting out, if they realize the limitations I’ve mentioned, first. I feel like I have to pull more out of it in post to get it to sound good, but overall it is a great mic especially for the price.
I’ve used it off and on for years and it is unforgiving as far as outside noise getting in. If you go with this mic, having a killer sounding dead space will make this mic shine.

Is it good enough to do professional VO jobs? Will it be a great mic to practice with, and get your toes in the voice over water? Yes! Will it compete with high end mics like the Sennheiser 416 or Neumann TLM-103? Probably not. This is probably the best XLR voiceover mic you can get in this price range (only $100!) It can sound surprisingly good, especially if you learn to EQ it, and have a quiet, well-treated room.
